HISTORY
Amalgamated Textiles (Australia) Limited was an Australian textile and woollen manufacturing company founded in 1923 to establish a chain of woollen mills around the country. It became especially associated with major mills at Albury, and by the early 1930s it was operating mills at Albury, Orange and Goulburn, making it an important part of Australia’s interwar textile industry. At its peak, the business was a major regional employer, particularly in Albury, and its later history continued through successor companies. It eventually became Macquarie Worsteds Ltd in 1956.
