HISTORY

Australasian Coursing Club, Limited was a New South Wales company formed during the late 1920s greyhound and live-hare coursing boom, operating meetings at Mascot and appearing regularly in Sydney newspaper advertisements and race reports of the period. It was active by 1928 as a promoter of coursing events, but the certificate’s “in liquidation” overprint matches evidence that the company later ran into financial trouble and was in liquidation by 1930, a fate that was common among speculative sporting and entertainment ventures of the era. The company belongs to the early commercial development of organised greyhound and coursing sport in Australia, when clubs and promoters were helping turn what had been a niche pastime into a ticketed spectator business in Sydney.
