HISTORY
Carlton and United Breweries Limited, usually known as CUB, was one of Australia’s most important brewing companies. It was formed in 1907 through the merger of major Melbourne breweries, including Carlton, Foster’s, Victoria, Shamrock, McCracken and Castlemaine, and went on to become a dominant force in Australian beer production. Over the twentieth century it expanded beyond Victoria, acquired other brewing interests, and became closely associated with famous brands such as Carlton Draught and Victoria Bitter. In later years it passed through major corporate owners including Elders IXL, Foster’s, SABMiller and AB InBev, before becoming part of Asahi in 2020. Historically, it is best described as a leading Australian brewing and beverage company.
