HISTORY
CSR Limited began in Sydney in 1855 as the Colonial Sugar Refining Company, founded by Edward Knox, and grew into one of Australia’s oldest major industrial businesses. It first built its reputation in sugar refining and milling, expanding from New South Wales into Queensland and Fiji, before later diversifying far beyond sugar into industrial and building-related operations. The company adopted the CSR name in the 1970s after more than a century under the Colonial Sugar Refining identity, and in modern times became best known as a major building products manufacturer in Australia and New Zealand.
