HISTORY
H. C. Sleigh Limited was a major Australian petroleum and distribution company that grew out of the business founded in Melbourne by Harold Crofton Sleigh in 1893 and later became closely identified with the Golden Fleece fuel brand. Under the Sleigh family it expanded from shipping and trading into petroleum marketing, and by the postwar decades it was one of the best-known independent fuel groups in Australia, operating a large network of service stations and roadhouses. This 1981 share certificate comes from the very end of that long independent history, because H. C. Sleigh’s Golden Fleece operations were absorbed by Caltex in 1981.
