HISTORY
Oil Search Limited was one of the most important petroleum companies associated with Papua and later Papua New Guinea. Incorporated in Port Moresby in 1929, it was created to search for oil in the Papuan territories and went on to become the country’s dominant oil and gas explorer and producer, eventually operating major PNG oilfields and later participating in large LNG developments. This 1950 certificate comes from its earlier exploration-era history, when it was still structured with a nominal capital in shilling shares and maintained a Sydney office as well as its Port Moresby registration. Much later, Oil Search merged with Santos in 2021, ending its long separate corporate existence.
