HISTORY
Shipping Newspapers Limited was a long-running New South Wales specialist publishing company best known for issuing the Daily Commercial News, a maritime and trade newspaper first published in 1891 after founder Howard Ignatius Moffat established the business in 1890. Over the decades it became an important Australian shipping, trade and transport publisher, later operating from Shipnews House in North Sydney and expanding into interstate printing and publishing subsidiaries; by the late 1960s it was substantial enough to attract corporate interest before being acquired by Sir Ronald Brierley in 1969, after which its assets were broken up and sold.
