HISTORY
Tarax Drinks Holdings Limited was part of the Victorian Tarax soft-drink business, a well-known Australian beverage company whose origins go back to the late 1890s in country Victoria under the Pethard family. By the late 1950s and early 1960s, Tarax had grown into a significant listed soft-drink and bottling group based at 190 Union Street, West Brunswick, and it was active in product and packaging innovation, including Australia’s first canned soft drinks in 1961. Tarax was one of the stronger regional soft-drink brands of its era, especially in Victoria, before the business was taken over by Cadbury Schweppes in 1972. This 1961 certificate therefore comes from Tarax’s independent expansion phase, when it was still an Australian-controlled listed beverage company.
