HISTORY
The Colonial Sugar Refining Company Limited, usually known as CSR, was founded in 1855 in Sydney and became one of Australia’s oldest and most important industrial companies. It began as a sugar refining business, then expanded into sugar mills and plantations in Australia and the Pacific, especially Queensland and Fiji. Over time it grew far beyond sugar, becoming a major diversified industrial group, and later adopted the shorter CSR Limited name. Historically, it is best known as a cornerstone of the Australian sugar industry that later evolved into a broader manufacturing and building-products company.
