HISTORY
The Commercial Banking Company of Sydney Limited, usually known as CBC, was one of Australia’s oldest banks. It was established in 1834 in Sydney, grew with the colony’s pastoral, farming and commercial economy, and later absorbed the Bank of Victoria in 1927. Its independent history ended when it merged with the National Bank of Australasia on 1 October 1981, helping form what became National Australia Bank (NAB).
