HISTORY
Thiess Holdings Limited was the listed corporate vehicle of the Queensland construction and engineering group built by the Thiess family. The business began in the 1930s as a small road-building and earthmoving contractor, later became Thiess Bros, and was floated on the Sydney and Brisbane stock exchanges in the 1950s. By the time of this 1979 certificate, Thiess was a major Australian contractor active in civil engineering, mining, and infrastructure, but it was also at the end of its independent era: CSR mounted a takeover in late 1979 and gained control in early 1980. This certificate therefore comes from the final stage of Thiess Holdings as a family-controlled listed company.
