HISTORY
Tooheys Limited was one of Australia’s best-known brewing companies, founded in Sydney in the late 1860s by the Toohey brothers and built into a major New South Wales beer producer as Australia’s urban population and hotel trade expanded. The company became a public company in the early 20th century, developed famous brands such as Tooheys New, and by the time of this 1979 certificate was an established listed brewer with share registries in Sydney, Canberra, and Brisbane. Soon after this period, Tooheys merged with Castlemaine Perkins in 1980 to form Castlemaine Tooheys, making this certificate part of the later independent history of one of Australia’s iconic brewing firms.
