HISTORY
Winns Limited was a long-running New South Wales retail business that grew out of the Winn family’s Newcastle drapery trade. The family expanded into Sydney in the late 1890s, the business was formed into a limited liability company in 1903, and over time it operated major department-store style premises in Oxford Street, Darlinghurst. By the late 1960s it was still a substantial retailer, with reports describing multiple Sydney-area stores and a mail-order operation, but the company later declined, went into liquidation in 1978, and the old Darlinghurst store closed in 1982.
